Stages
Stages
Zhivoy Gorod interestes both in audience-oriented and еxperimental theatre forms.
Zhivoy Gorod manages three stages in Kazan.

▧ UGOL (Угол / Corner), the creative laboratory. Here students of theatre schools make their first production in collaboration with directors invited by the curator of the stage.

▧ MOÑ, the theatre stage. Here we support and develop contemporary national theatre and also citizens stage (the form originated in Germany as Bürgerbühne). The citizens stage productions let Kazan citizens become participants of performances and share their experience with audience.

▧ Demidov Mansion, the theatre residence. Here productions take place in historical building, the 19th century mansion. Every performance is integrated in the mansion space, made in “site-specific” form. All performances are either participative or immersive.

Projects / Workshops
Projects / Workshops
«ART-podgotovka» is truly a platform for experimentation and communication
«Gorod ART-podgotovka» is a theater workshop that has been held in Kazan since 2014.

This is one of the largest annual theatre projects of the Republic of Tatarstan, during which several teams work on sketching performances and presenting them to the public in the most unexpected locations in the city: abandoned buildings, parks and squares, underground tunnels, hangars…

We often invite theatre directors, playwrights and stage designers to participate in this workshop, and we are open to new ideas and collaborations from all areas of the Arts.

It attempts to overcome the traditions and conventions of academic theatre, explores new artistic language, and encourages co-creating and audience participation
"Sviyazhsk ARTel" is a site-specific theatre workshop held annually in July on the island of Sviyazhsk. The setting of Sviyazhsk island is always an integral part of the performances.

The participants of the workshop are usually artists from Russia and Europe. The project is organised by "Zhivoy Gorod" Foundation with the support of the local Ministry of Culture and a number of partners.

Theatre-Science Workshop «Annihilation»
Science is not only about the past and present, but rather about the future, which interests us a lot
There is almost no interaction between Russian theatre and science, which is a shame, because science is not only about the past and present, but also about the future, which interests us a lot.

In this workshop, scientists pair up with theatre "directors" (though, in this context the word "initiator" or simply "the one who starts something" rather than "director" seems more appropriate).

The initial material for each project is not a text or a play, but an idea; an assumption or a fallacy, a dark spot on the map, a place where theatre has not yet been.

Young Directors Workshop
Thanks to the programme, at least five performances are annually staged in Kazan
A permanent programme of the Foundation, YDW was opened in 2016 with the aim of supporting novice directors, as well as presenting the best works of Russian and foreign theatre directors who set today's theatre trends.

Thanks to the programme, at least five performances are staged annually in Kazan. They radically differ in directorial style and dramatic material. The creators of the productions are both novice directors, artists, actors, and prominent representatives of modern theatre in Russia and Europe.

Talking About Theatre
Master-classes and public talks from the best Russian theatre practitioners and theoreticians
This programme was launched by the Foundation in 2016. The project includes lectures, master-classes and public talks from the best Russian theatre practitioners and theoreticians, while also providing a platform for the presentation of vivid examples of Russian and European theatre and cinema.

In general, it is an educational workshop for art managers, actors, directors and artists in the field of contemporary theatre.
